Purchase Pasture-Raised Heritage Meats from Doko Farm

Pork, Lamb, Mutton, Chicken, Thanksgiving Turkeys, & Eggs

Dissatisfied with the options available in the grocery stores, we began raising heritage animals on pasture, to provide our family with a healthy supply of meat, that was raised responsibly and humanely. What we discovered was flavor! Now your family can also enjoy the high quality of Doko Farm's heritage meats.

Pasture-Raised

Doko Farm's heritage breeds of livestock are raised on pasture and silvo-pasture (pasture with trees that provide additional forgage) on our family farm, in Richland County, South Carolina. We feel that pasture-based systems are healthier for you, our livestock, the environment, and us as farmers, when compared to industrial forms of agriculture.

Heritage Breeds

Doko Farm raises the following heritage breeds Guinea Hogs (pork), St. Croix Sheep (lamb/mutton), Buckeye Chickens (poultry), and Narragansett Turkeys (poultry).

A heritage breed is one that: has been selected for a long, productive, outdoor life; can mate naturally; is an older breed that was developed prior to the mid-1900's; and has been, or is currently, endangered of disappearing due to low population numbers.

By selecting heritage breeds that are best suited for our climate and specific farm conditions, we are ensuring that the animals on our pasture can make the most of what we have to offer.

Heritage breeds grow slowly, often taking twice as long as their industrial counterparts to reach market weight.  This slow growth is the key to developing rich flavor.

The flavor is so good that products from each of our breeds are listed on the Slow Food Ark of Taste. "The Slow Food US Ark of Taste is a catalog of over 200 delicious foods in danger of extinction. By promoting and eating Ark products we help ensure they remain in production and on our plates." - www.slowfoodusa.org

We are stewards of these rare breeds, and are doing our part to maintain diversity, and resiliency, in our food system.
