It is no secret that raising heritage turkeys comes with a steep learning curve. What if you could start your heritage turkey project with 15 years of experience already in your back pocket? Would you do it? We want to help you flatten that curve!
At Doko Farm, Amanda and Joe have been honing their heritage turkey skills, and selectively breeding their closed flock of Narragansett Turkeys for over a decade. For the first time, they are packing all they have learned into a one-day class for a few lucky farmers.
They are not holding back any trade secrets! Learn how Amanda and Joe raised flocks of heritage turkeys with high survival rates. (It can be done!) They will also set you up for financial success by sharing how they market their heritage turkeys as high end holiday products that sell out each year, with long waitlists!

Ready to start your own flock of heritage turkeys? Put everything you'll learn in the Master Class to use, with your very own flock of Narragansett turkeys. Your heritage turkeys have already started their winter light regimen for fertile spring eggs. You can hatch your first eggs this spring. and sell your first pasture-raised heritage turkeys next November.
Each starter flock includes 3 Narragansett hens, hatched here at Doko Farm in Spring 2024, and 1 Narragansett Tom, as well as a turkey crate for transport. You will take your Narragansett Starter Flock home on February, 22nd, at the end of the Heritage Turkey Master Class.
Doko Farm's original Narragansett turkey flock, came from an individual in Rhode Island, who was himself of Narragasett decent. Over the past decade, Amanda and Joe have selectively bred their Narragansett turkeys for bred standards, health, and production.
Narragansett Turkey Starter Flocks are a first from Doko Farm, and we are only offering them to our Heritage Turkey Master Class farmers. There are just a few heritage turkey starter flocks available. Be sure to register early, if you want this option!
Flourish in your first season!
Amanda and Joe want you to thrive as heritage turkey farmers. You will receive emails throughout 2025, with reminders and advice, at key points in the season.
Doko Farm will also host a private facebook group for Heritage Turkey Master Class Farmers. Connect with others to share tips and get questions answered. We are in this together!
Doko Farm is on the forefront of the local, heritage, and slow food movements in South Carolina. Heritage breeds typically take twice as long to reach market weight, compared to their industrial counter parts. By choosing to raise heritage breeds on pasture, many of which are found on Slow Food's Ark of Taste, Amanda and Joe are taking slow food to the next level. Doko Farm has been featured in NRCS/ESRI Farm to Fork Video, and The Kitchn, among other places, and is a founding farm of the Richland County Ag and Art Tour.
Joe is the fourth generation to farm his family's land. His background in genetics helps fuel his passion for preserving diversity in our foods. Joe has a doctorate in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from UC Santa Cruz. He has been involved in numerous deep-sea voyages including the discovery of the yeti crab. In his 9-5 job, Joe is faculty at the University of South Carolina. Joe is an accomplished lecturer and receives stellar evaluations from his undergraduate classes. His passion in teaching undergraduates lies in connecting the dots between environment, food, and the individual.
Amanda runs many of the day to day aspects of Doko Farm and has over a decade’s worth of experience in small-scale sustainable farming, and conservation of diversity in our food system. In her off farm job, Amanda is the Richland County Ag + Art Tour Coordinator. Amanda is an accomplished environmental educator. Her background is in marine biology, with an emphasis in education. She has extensive experience working in the field with Alaskan seabirds, elephant seals, and Hawaiian Monk Seals. Her experience with wild threatened and endangered species has prepared her with excellent animal husbandry skills, which she now uses, while caring for the rare heritage breeds, at Doko Farm. Amanda is skilled in the kitchen and uses her talents and interests to educate others about heritage meat production, from the logistics of breed selection, breeding and marketing to preparing heritage meats for your family's table.
